Abstract

A physical hydraulic model investigation was conducted to evaluate the performance of Dawuan weir at Situbondo-East Java, that is a standard spillway with 72 slope (smooth spillway), compare with stepped spillway design. The stepped spillway has 72 slope with 32 steps that it cut into the surface of spillway from the crest to the toe. This paper presents the results of the experimental studies on spillway of 72 and to find out the hydraulic jump conditions at smooth spillway and stepped spillway with 32 steps. Hydraulic model of smooth and stepped spillway implemented at laboratory with 100 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 5 variations of flow rates. It was found that for the stepped spillway with 32 steps could reduce the length of hydraulic jump about 47.61%. The percentage of energy loss of stepped spillway was approximately 92.59%.
