Abstract

Preparation of ZnO-Silica has been investigated in this research study using sol-gel method. The experimental set up mainly consisted of distillation for producing ZnO Colloids, a simple dip-coating for thin film preparation and cation-anion resin column for producing silica sol from water glass. Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O and LiOH.H2O were used as precursor solution. ZnO Colloid was made by distillation ethanolic zinc acetate at 78-80oC. In order to produce colloids, react it with LiOH which had been dissolved into ethanol at 0oC. The resultant of colloid was then mixed with silica precursor from water glass source to trap ZnO in order to prevent the particles growth. Accordingly, attract the substrate dipped in colloidal ZnO with a very slow speed to obtain thin film ZnO-silica nanocomposite. Morphology, crystallinity and optical properties of nanocomposite were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and UV-Vis spectrometer. ZnO-Silika nanocomposite was affected by zinc acetate and LiOH concentrations. Zinc acetate concentration at 0.2 M and LiOH 0.23 M gave the best result for producing ZnO-Silica nanocomposite.
