Abstract

Hydroxyapatite is bioactive material used to implants in biomedical applications. The size, morphology and purity are important characteristics in the medical specifications. Understanding process of formation hydroxyapatite particles is required in order to control characteristics of final particles. Therefore, in this research is studied process of formation hydroxyapatite particles and effect of operation parameter to characteristic final particle. Synthesis method was used flame spray pyrolysis within flame diffusion reactor with LPG as a fuel and air as carrier gas. Precursor solution was prepared by dissolving crystalline Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and (NH4)2HPO4. Characterization of final particle can be analyzed using SEM and XRD to determine the size, morphology and purity. From the analysis results showed that hydroxyapatite has a size - average of several tens to hundreds of nanometers depending on the type and amount of addition of additives. The resulting particles have a spherical morphology with varying purity. Increasingly of additives concentration and rate LPG result hydroxyapatite particles size become smaller but lower purity.
