Abstract

The bicycle material used needs to be sure to be able to withstand static and dynamic loads, so it does not fail quickly due to fatigue. For this reason, a finite element simulation can be carried out by providing static and fatigue loading on bicycle forks based on the fork-test racing bicycles of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) 14781. There are two types of materials used, namely AISI 4130 and AA 6061 T6. In comparison, the thickness variations chosen are 1.2 mm, 1.4 mm, and 1.6 mm for each type of material. Simulation results show that bicycle forks with AISI 4130 material and 1.6 mm thickness produce safe deflection, equivalent stress, cycle life, and safety factors. While for bicycle forks with aluminum material AA 6061 T6, it is necessary to add thickness so that it will make safe from static and dynamic loads.
