Abstract

In-situ synthesis of ZIF-8 with addition of chitosan was successfully carried out by the hydrothermal method at room temperature for 24 hours in water solvent. The amounts of chitosan added was 30, 60, 120, 300% to the weight of ZIF-8, respectively, and the obtained solids were denoted as ZIF-8, C30/ZIF-8, C60/ZIF-8, ZIF-8/C120, and ZIF-8/C300, respectively. The synthesis solids were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX). The modification of chitosan in ZIF-8 to increase the active side of composite materials. The result of SEM showed that synthesized had rhombic dodecahedron morphology, but the addition of chitosan resulted in changes of the surface morphology. The highest adsorption capacity of Remazol Brilliant Blue R was observed for ZIF-8/C120, which was 384,6153 mg/g at 60 minutes contact time and in solution with pH = 7. Adsorption of Remazol Brilliant Blue R on ZIF-8 and ZIF-8/Chitosan followed pseudo second order reaction kinetics, and was in accordance with the isothermal Langmuir adsorption.
