Bamboo Gigantochloa atroviolacea Bambusa vulgaris schard Tensile Properties Thermal Properties198012072005011004 Hosta Ardhyananta


Characteristics of Indonesian bamboo species (Gigantochloa atroviolacea and Bambusa vulgaris scahrd) were studied. Bamboos physiological and fiber characteristics were examined. The physiological characteristics observed by visual. The bamboo fiber characteristics was examined from the extracted fiber from bamboo culm. the fiber was extracted by mechanical and chemical treatment (alkali solution) for delignification. The result show that each bamboo species has it own specific properties. The Gigantochloa atroviolacea showed higher culm thickness than Bambusa vulgaris schard. Gigantochloa atroviolacea has higher fiber density than Bambusa vulgaris schard. The fiber tensile strength of Gigantochloa atroviolacea was higher than Bambusa vulgaris schard. The fiber of Gigantochloa atroviolacea showed higher Modulus Young and Elongation at break than Bambusa vulgaris schard. The bamboo properties correspond to the hidroxyl group. The Gigantochloa atroviolacea has higher thermal stability than Bambusa vulgaris schard
