Abstract

The most obvious impacts from construction of physical facilities and infrastructure in urban areas are reduced Green Open Space and increasing consumption of fossil energy that produce CO 2 emissions. T he aim of this study is to analyze the adequacy of Green Open Space managed by DKP city of Surabaya in absorbing CO 2 emissions at the North and East of Surabaya. Analysis were performed by using Program Stella which is a software for modeling based on flow charts. Then do the analyzing CO 2 absorption by Green Open Space after the two scenarios in order to increase the CO 2 absorption. The scenarios are optimizing the trees area on existing Green Open Space and the mix of recommendation to manage Green Open Space which has not been managed yet by DKP city of Surabaya and the addition of new Green Open Space. The analysis shows that the CO 2 emissions generated in the North of Surabaya is 490,859.21 tons/year and in the East of Surabaya is 1,187,392.08 tons/year, whereas the ability of the existing green open space to absorb CO 2 emissions in North of Surabaya is 2,456.04 tons CO 2 /year (0.50%) and in East of Surabaya is 9,885.48 tons CO 2 /year (0.83%) . The first and second scenario in increasing the CO 2 absorption results the improvement of CO 2 absorption to the size of 5,580.28 tons CO 2 /year (1.14%) at the North of Surabaya and 13,384.76 tons CO 2 /year (1.13%) at the East of Surabaya.
